Sleep Solutions from Chinese Masters
By Maoshing Ni, L.Ac., D.O.M., Ph.D.
Nearly two out of three Americans are affected by insomnia and other sleep
disorders. With that many people resting poorly, it is a wonder anyone gets through the
workweek—let alone their whole life! While there are many pharmaceuticals available to induce
sleep, there are centuries-old traditional techniques that can get you your zzz’s naturally.

Long Yan Rou - Longan Fruit
By Lisa M. Miller, L.Ac.
Many patients who prepare raw Chinese herbal decoctions can be somewhat turned off by the taste and
smell of the cooked herbs. Usually this happens during the first few preparations because they’re
not used to Chinese herbs and haven’t yet experienced their healing powers. However, there are a

Acupuncture and Adrenal Gland Functions
By Li Zheng, Ph.D., Lic. Acu.
Coincident with the equilibrium theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine, many studies have

and the bloodstream. The endocrine system is an orchestra that requires all of its players to be
fully engaged.

ASK THE DOCTOR
Q:
Three years ago I had a successful coronary artery bypass surgery.
I want to keep my arteries healthy many years into the future. What should I do to avoid clogging? I
stopped eating highly saturated fats and meat and became a vegetarian. Can you recommend anything
additional that would be beneficial?
A:
I am glad that you have taken the necessary steps to increase
your potential for a long and prosperous life. I will give you some additional recommendations. First,
an all-vegetarian diet often strips the individual of many essential amino acids found only in animal
products. I suggest you either find a proper supplementation for these essential elements or you
incorporate some organic animal products into your diet. You can consult a nutritionist for the proper
course of action.
