Points - Ask the Doctor

Q: For a long while I have had a fungus on my big toe and other toes that will not go away. What should I do to get rid of it?

A: Fungus likes wet, dark, and damp places. Furthermore, it appears that your immune system may not be strong enough to ward off these invaders. Assuming the fungal infection has not penetrated the nail bed and is confined to the skin between the toes.

I would suggest the following regiment:

1. Wash your feet three times daily with cool water and hypoallergenic soap. Dry your feet thoroughly.

2. Do not wear thick socks and shoes. Also, wash all your socks thoroughly (you may want to consider purchasing new ones as fungal spores may proliferate the socks and continue to infect your feet).

3. Expose your toes to direct sunlight for 15 to 20 minutes per day; fan the toes out to allow sunlight to penetrate the web of your feet.

4. Prepare a soak made of Folium Isatidis, Herba Agastache, Rhizoma Rhei, and vinegar. Let the herbs soak for one week in the vinegar. After one week, filter the solution. Soak your feet in the solution for 30 minutes once daily.

I recommend you visit an herbalist for a more appropriate diagnosis and treatment of the condition.
