Q:
The skin on my body is very dry. It itches all winter. Most
moisturizers don't do the trick. What will keep me from being so itchy?
A:
If you do not have eczema or psoriasis
(chronic skin conditions with rashes and very dry scaly skin), you may have a fluid deficiency that
can cause your skin to be dry. One suggestion is to be sure that you are getting your proper vitamin
intake including vitamin B and E. Vitamin E can also be applied directly to the skin at elbows, knees,
or anywhere that is excessively dry. Avoid spicy foods, alcohol, coffee, and excessive exposure to sun
and wind.
Some remedies include:
- Boil soup from winter melon and seaweed. Drink once every day.
- Make tea from dandelion and corn silk.
- Make porridge from lily bulb, rehmannia, poria, and rice; eat once daily for ten days.
