The Connection Between Autoimmune Disease and Staying Fit

The Connection Between Autoimmune Disease and Staying FitBy Lauren Brown West-Rosenthal

An autoimmune disease is a condition where your immune system mistakenly attacks your body. Normally, your immune system protects your body against germs like bacteria and viruses. When your body senses these foreign invaders, fighter cells are deployed. Now, usually, your immune system can tell the difference between foreign cells and your own cells but not when you suffer from an autoimmune disease. Ask Dr. MaoQ: My gums bleed when I brush my teeth, except right after a visit to the dentist. What would you recommend I do? Can you offer some advice for treating gum disease?

A: Bleeding gums can be caused by a bioflavonoid deficiency. You can help by taking bioflavonoids in supplemental form and eating fruits, like oranges, that are rich in bioflavonoids. Massaging the gums with tonic oil consisting of wintergreen oil, eucalyptus, and peppermint can also be helpful.

When you go to the dentist, they do an excellent job of cleaning your teeth and gums. However, the root cause of your bleeding gums lies within your body. A healthy diet and adequate rest is important for you. Keep stress levels at a minimum.
