Clinical Observation on ZY-1 in Treating 52 HIV-Infected Patients

Objective: To assess efficacy of ZY-1,a Chinese medicinal herbs recipe.

Methods: 52 HIV-infected patients (including 19 AC, 9 ARC, 24 AIDS). ZY-1 is a comp. Chinese herbal recipe, consisted of Astragalus membranaceus, Viola yedoensis etc, indicated for early and middle stage pts, taken 10g, 3/d. ELISA and/or WB were done, and lympho. subsets were measured before and after treatment. Fatigue, fever, cough, diarrhea, anorexia, lymphadenopathy, skin rash were displayed. T4CC was 246.21/mm3, T4/T8 was 0.43 in average.

Results: After treatment, most symptoms alleviated, immune function improved in 14 pts, unchanged in 16 pts, sum 30 pts (57.7%). Total eff. rate 51.9%. 1 pt showed seroreversion after taken 3 mths of ZY-1, whose immune function was high. SIV monkey model also showed better results with immune and pathol. improvements than that of AZT and NS control.

Conclusions: ZY-1 is effective both clinically, immunologically and serologically.
