The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of electrostimulation of auricular
acupuncture points in the treatment of confirmed post-polio syndrome patients. Short and Long term responses in 12 study subjects were measured. Good or excellent results were obtained in all patients; 66.7% reported a return to their pre-existing levels of health. Our experience has shown that this modality can be effective as a permanent, relatively simple and inexpensive form of therapy for this condition. To our knowledge, this is the first effective therapy available for the over 75,000 post-polio syndrome patients in the United States alone.
